Tbilisi Sea, which is actually an artificial reservoir, is an important recreational and urban area for Motherland. A 3 km wide and 8.5 km long reservoir was built on the Ivri plateau, connecting three brackish lakes, in 1952 (put into operation in 1953).

Its first project was prepared in the 1930s, but World War II prevented its implementation. This event caused great changes - even the temperature in the city dropped slightly, a dendrological park was planted and millions of new saplings were planted.

The arrangement of the Tbilisi Sea gave impetus to the creation and expansion of new areas around it, such as Sanzona and Temka (today's seaside district). In the 1960s and 70s, residential complexes were built, beaches and shopping and entertainment facilities were arranged. In a recently uninhabited place, the population began to grow rapidly.

In the 1980s, the main symbol of these areas - the statues of the chronicle of Georgia - was organized. Tbilisi Sea does not lose its relevance to this day, and the population of the areas located near it continues to grow and maintain demand.
